Spending Time with My Father

My father is a serious person, and he is quiet most of the time. Every time I talk to him, he responds with only a word or two. For a long time I thought that he was hard to communicate with. However, the basketball game we both watched on TV yesterday offered us some common topics. We talked about the game and players. Now I realize that my father can be talkative if I bring up a topic he is fammiliar with.

A Pat time Job

While in colleage, I found a part time job as a waiter in a restaurant. I needed this job because I hoped to work my way through colleage. I worked from six in the evening till one in the morning, and most of the time I had to walk around taking orders. The job was tiring, but liked it because it offered me a chance to learn to be independent and deal with people.

Going Shopping

There was a big sale at the department store near my company, so my friend Mary and I decided to go there and see if there was anything worth buying. Just like many other customers, we were busy looking for the things we wanted. Finally, Mary found a red sweater she liked very much, and I chose a green coat for my mom. We were very happy because we didn't spend much money buying what we wanted.

Getting Sick

Last week, my friend David and I went to Penghu for a visit. It was a little cold and windy, but the seawater was so clear and blue that we couldn't help plunging into it and swimming around. The next day, I felt dizzy and had a sore throat when I woke up. Even worse, I could hardly walk . I knew I had come down with a bad cold. Luckily, David took me to the hospital, where I stayed for two days. I'm fine now, but I'll never forget that trip to Penghu.

Dormitory Life

Many colleges in Taiwan provide dormitories for their students, and I think this is a good idea. On the one hand, those who live in the dorm come from different places, so they have a great opportunity to make friends and learn different things. On the other, they can learn to tolerate the opinions of others and thus get along well with people. Another good thing about living in the dorm is that young people can learn to be more independent.

A Live Concert

Being a music fan., I never miss a good concert. Last weekend, a famous band from the United States came to perform in Taipei. The concert drew thousands of people, including me. To be frank, the lead singer was not handsome, but he sang very well. Throughout the concert, we couldn't help dancing and singing along with him. It was indeed a wonderful concert.

My Favorite Season

Spring is my favorite season because it is neither too hot nor too cold. This is a good season for outdoor activities, particularly hiking. Almost every weekend, I'll drive my family into the mountains and stop when we find a trail. Then we'll walk up the trail till we get to the top. The air there is fresh and the view around is fantastic. There are the good things we can enjoy only in sping.

A Fire

There was a big fire in a factory near my house last night. The fire spread very quickly because there were many flammable things inside. Although it was late at night, the sky was bright because of the flams. Before long, fire engines came to put out the fire and rescue the people trapped in the factory. It took the firemen about three hours to extinguish the fire;fortunately, though, no one was hurt or killed.

A Very Bad Day

My younger brother had a very bad day today. He overslept because he had forgotten to set his alarm clock. Afraid that he was goung to be late for class, he ran as fast as he could to the bus stop. Unfortunately, he stepped on a banana peel and fell down. He missed the bus and had to take a taxi to school. He was about ten minutes late, so his teacher punished him by making clean up the classroom after school.

Pollution

Pollution is a serious problem around the world. This is especially true in big cities, where the number oof vehicles keeps increasing. The air here is dirty because of the exhaust from these vehicles. The situation is no better even in the countrycide. Where there are factories, there is water pollution. Pollution is spoiling our environment and endangering our survival. Shouldn't we take immediate action to deal with this problem?

My Hometown

My hometown is Taipei, which is a busy city with a population of four million. You can see many tall buildings in the world for the time being. The pase of life in Taipei is past, bot in general, people here are quiet friendly. Foreigners have no problem getting around because quite a few people speak good English. In many ways, Taipei may well be called an inernational city.

Fast-food restaurant

In order to save time, I went to a fast-food restaurant for lunch yesterday. I was shocked when I found a cockroach in my hamburger, so complain this to the manager. He apologized to me and offerd to give me another hamburger, but I was still dissatisfied with the quality of the food there. Unless they can make any improvement, I'm afraid I'll never visit that fast-food again.

Go Hiking

I like to go hiking in the mountains on weekends. Hiking helps me relieve my pressure from school, so it has become my favorite activity. I usually hike along since I don't want to be bothered by others. By this way, I can concentrate on the beautiful views around me and leave all my troubles behind. By hiking, I can do exercise and cultivate an optimistic attitude toward life.

Lost in Taipei

Traveling in a big city is exciting, but it can be scary if you get lost. Yesterday, I went to Taipei for a view. Everything went well until I got lost. I founded myself surrounded by tall buildings, and I couldn't find my way back to the hotel. I was scared and didn't know what to do. Just then, I saw a polliceman, so I went to him for directions. He showed me the way by drawing a map, and I succeeded in finding my hotel. Had it not been for his help, I might have ended up sleeping on the street.
