Typhoons

Taiwan is hit by typhoons almost every summer. Although typhoons can bring us plenty of rainfall, they often do serious damage to our environment. They cause not only flooding in many low-lying areas but also mudslides in the mountains. The loss of money and lives is often far beyond our imagination. In view of this, the government should take proper measures to reduce the damage typhoons may cause.

Retirement

Many people do not know what to do when they retire, but my father is different. He keeps himself busy by working as a volunteer at a hospital during the daytime and taking art classes at night. Early this year. Father held his first exhibition at a museum, and it was quite a success. Father is really a living example of the old sayig, "Live and learn," and I'm very proud of him.

My Pet

Not long ago, on my way home from work, I saw a little stray dog. It looked dirty but cute, so I decided to keep it as a pet. In the beginning, my wife was against the idea, but I finally persuaded her to let it stay with us. Thanks to our good care, the little dog has become healthy and strong. What's even better, my childen spend more playing with the dog than they do playing computer games.

National Park

Almost every country has its national parks. The main goal of establishing these national parks is to protect our natural and social resources. In addition, national parks also offer places for the public to engage in recreational activities. When we are visiting these places, however, we must follow the rules. In other words, we should keep these parks clean and not harm anything in them. By doing so, we are conserving the precios natural resources for our future generations.

Coffee

Drinking coffee has become a fad in Taiwan. Coffee shops are popping up everywhere, and even street vendors are selling coffee, too. In addition to coffee, many coffee shops offer a wide variety of desserts and light meals as well. They also provide customers with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. In my view, a coffee shop is the best place to kill time.

Taking an Airplane

Last year, I took a trip to Tokyo by plane. Since this was my first time taking a plane, I felt quite excited and nervous. I sat by the window, so I could see the blue ocean down below. The view was beautiful, and I was lost in it. All of a sudden, the plane a started to bump up and down as if it was about to crash. Fortunately, this didn't last long, but I was already scared to death.

A Trip I Will Never Forget

I will never forget the trip I took with my family two years ago. We were on vacation on a large cruise ship. The sea was calm, so I thought it wuold be a smooth trip. We were enjoying the night view on the desk when, all of a suudden, a big wave came. The wave was so powerful that our ship started to rock from side to side. It lasted only three minutes, but everyone on the ship was scared to death.

My Neighbor

My neighbor John is an American, who came to Taiwan two years ago. Originally he had planned to stay here for half a year in order to learn Chinese, but he met a local girl he loves so much that they're going to get married this year. John is friendly and knowledgeable, so chatting with him is always a pleasant experience. I don't know how much longer he will stay in Taiwan, but I will certainly cherish his friendship.

A job interview

I went to a famous company for a job interview last Friday. To my surprise, there were already ten people lining up to apply for the job. When it was my turn to be interviewed, I was very nervous, but I managed to stay calm and answer all the questions. I didn't think I did well, but the next day someone from the company called and told me that I was hired. I felt quiet excited upon hearing the good news.
